"Homemade" Science Fun

So this is a little off topic for The Teacup Cottage but I am really proud of my little guy. His class has be studying what they call "Ocean Institute" where their Pre-K education are taught in a immersive style program, where they use ocean themes in all their reading, writing, math, etc. There will be a big party next week where the 6 Pre-K classes will celbrate the end of the program and show the parents what projects they have accomplished (to include a "research paper").

On Friday, he came home with his self-contained ecosystem that each classmate made using a 2-liter soda bottle. I have to say, not only is this a great, hands-on way of earning about plant life, but I was truly impressed with the teacher and assistant teacher's level of patience doing this with 15 4-and 5-year olds. NOT for the faint of heart.

I did a little research this weekend because we thought it would be fun to make more and use different plants. There is a great tutorial here at Weird Science Kids. He was really excited about this project and I am always excited about finding creative ways to learn.

So while, this is a little off course for The Teacup Cottage, I am and have always been an advocate for creative learning for kids. I encourage you to try it with your little scientist.

Until our next cup of tea,
