You may have read my post, Make It Up As You Go, where I was sort of "winging it" when it came to the design. The quilt is for a contest I am participate in, my first EVER, at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival sponsored by Quilting Treasures and Quilter Pam Clarke. The quilts will be on display at The Festival, August 13-15 and will be judged by a panel of judges TODAY. I am not able to attend the festival, as it coincides with our summer vacation, but I have been 3 or 4 times and love it!
Well, last week Lil Monkey went to the grandparents for the day and I sat down and finished the 18" miniature quilt (also a first for me), and as much as I am not a fan of the piecing all those tiny fabric pieces, but when it was all done, I loved it so much, that I may make myself, since the ones for the contest will be collected and later auctioned and proceeds will be divided between 2 charities supporting service members and muscular dystrophy research.
After I sewed together the pinwheels, I turned the block "on-point" with alternating fabrics.
I then added a 1 1/2 inch white border to break up the color (you can see I trimmed it down before adding this border).
Then, I cut a variety of 2-inch blocks of the 8 fabrics and made a scrappy style border.
The finished mini quilt measures 18-inches square.
I am very excited about the way it turned out and I have to say that Quilting Treasures Shangri-La series is absolutely beautiful! I can't wait to see photos of other entries. This was certainly a fun project. I'm excited to see who the winner are.
Until our next cup of tea ...
