Off to a Very Pink-ish Start!!

In my last post, I invited readers to join me as I start a new project, and year long Quilt Sampler. I have chosen the Layer Cake Sampler QAL, by Amanda at Material Girl Quilts. I am particularly excited about this project pattern because not only can I try blocks I have not made before but all of the blocks are made with half-square triangles (HST), which I LOVE!!

My plan is to complete 2 blocks each month and post updates on the 15th of each month. I finished the first and second blocks earlier this week and was very excited about how quick and easy they were. If you look at Amanda's link for Block 1 & 2, she provides the layout of the two block as well as alternate layout options. On this tutorial you can also find pictorial step-by-step directions for making the 4 1/2 inch HST using 10 1/2 inch squares. Its so simple you can make 8 HST all with a few stitches!

Check out my blocks ...

Block 1

Block 2

I had been looking for a project to use this fabric, Notting Hill, from the Stonehill Collection by Donna Wilder. I loved these three fabrics but when  found them at JoAnn's I only got a yard or so of each since I had not project idea in mind.

I also paired it with some white-on-white fabric also from JoAnn's. I also looked through some leftover pieces from other projects and found some pinks and greens that I'll mix in for a little surprise here and there.

If you'd like to quilt the blocks along with me feel free to explore Material Girl Quilts and learn from her step-by-step instructions and various layout choices for each block. My schedule with be:
