Another project! Another Block-of-the-month! This year I am doing two BOMs. I know, crazy, but when my mom and grandmother asked if I wanted to join them in a block-of-the-month at a local quilt shop, I couldn't say "no!".
There was a meeting today to show our Block 5 and pick up Block 6. I didn't go because we were suppose to have a playdate with Lil Monkey's friends, a set of twins, to make Father's Day gifts. So my mom picked up the block earlier this week.
The quilt project we are doing this year is Seeing Stars, from Turning Twenty by Tricia Cribbs. (Designer Photo) Our quilt shop is Cactus Quilts in Texas City, Texas. This is really one of my favorite places to visit, and I certainly save my pennies like a little kid wanting to buy candy!
I have to say, my initial hesitancy was because I am very picky about fabrics. Not so much brand, but if a fabric doesn't "inspire" or "excite" me, then chances are slim that i will finish the project. I can only imagine how hard it is for a shop owner to pick fabric for a project like this. Though the colors are not on my "go to" list, I am excited that each month when I see the new fabric, the excitement is there. And ... if it wears off a little before I get around to making the block, my mom is quick to give me a little push.
This past week, I set aside some time in my schedule to make Block 5, an easy one so far.
The second photo was purely for entertainment. Its funny how it looks like a person or maybe I was just really tired when I took it at 11 p.m. at night.
Its really hard for me mix black and brown, I don't know why, but I really love this block. I'm not sure if like the middle stripes better horizontal or vertical, but I still have a few months before I have to decided.
I'll keep you posted on the progress.
Until our next cup of tea ...
